What happened to world number one tennis player, Serbian player Novak Djokovic is a strange story in the sports world as he was kicked out of Australian soil when he was competing at the Australian Open, the first of four Grand Prix Slams, and is looking to win his twenty-first title in those tournaments.
The problem is that the Serbian star is under threat of not entering Australia for three years, which means that he will be deprived of participating for three years in the Australian World Championships, which risks hampering his stay in top of the world rankings.
The player had been placed in administrative detention due to his entering Australia without having obtained the vaccine, in violation of the strict entry conditions that the Australian government intends, after having been granted an exclusive license due to his previous infection with the Corona virus, which means his body has developed its own protection.
But Australian laws do not consider this sufficient and have suspended his visa and sent his case to the Administrative Court.
The Serbian player's lawyers managed to extract a court order that overturned the decision to expel the player, and he was able to participate in training in preparation for the Australian Open tennis tournament. But he was met with a decision from the Immigration Minister renewing the order to cancel the visa again
Organizers of the Australian Open, the first of four Grand Slam tournaments, had entered Djokovic's name in Thursday's lottery draw, where it pitted him against compatriot Miomir Kismanovic, ranked 78th in the world, in the first round.
Australian authorities have said the presence of Djokovic, who has not received a Covid-19 vaccination, on its soil "could encourage anti-vaccination sentiment", arguing that he should be kicked out of the country. The decision means preventing Djokovic from obtaining an entry visa to Australia for a period of 3 years, except in exceptional circumstances.
Because of this, the Serbian star was deprived of winning the Australian Open for the tenth time in her history and breaking all records.
