As of today, there are 47 days left to kick off the 'Roland Garos' international tennis tournament.
As discussed in the article of July 03 (See) regarding the
organizational challenges of the French tennis tournament.
Indeed, the organizers have set the dates of September 27 to
October 11, 2020 as the game schedule and to avoid closed doors, the tournament
management have launched the guidelines for buying tickets and a health guide
to be able to enter French territory and join the stadiums.
Game Dates:
The dates are set between September 27 and October 11, 2020,
which are far from the usual competition dates which are between May 24 and
June 7, a date selected by the organizers to avoid double programming with US
Open which will take place between 31 August and September 13.
At first, players in the tennis world did not appreciate the
unilateral decision of the French tennis federation without consulting them.
Vacek Pospisil, member of the players' council, had explained
in an interview with the newspaper L'Equipe: "It is an arrogant, irresponsible
and selfish decision. The world is in a catastrophic state, everyone is
impacted very wrong way and, in my opinion, in such a time, it would be more
important that there is more communication ".
Ticketing :
Tickets are available on the official website of the FFT
(French Tennis Federation) and those interested can buy their tickets online.
The peculiarity this year, that the FFT clarified that in
order to respect the instructions and the directives of the government
concerning the measures of physical distancing, the organizers decided to limit
the capacity of reception of the stages between 50% to 60% to maximum and
therefore spectators are encouraged to bring their tickets before entering the
stadiums as there will be no point of sale in the stadium gates and for this
reason online sales are the only source to buy tickets.
Another point, the tickets will be sold without any
placement, that is to say, the ticket will not contain the number of your seat
and these numbers will be communicated by the possible tools to buyers from
mid-September, the placement in the stands will be subject to a precise
protocol: each group of buyers will be separated by one seat. On the additional
courts, one seat in two will be physically condemned, the placement being free
on the available seats.
Sanitary Reserves:
The stadiums will be disinfected and the distribution of
hydro-alcoholic gel is planned. Wearing masks is recommended before entering
the stadiums
Tournament program:
As indicated in the official guide…. , and the first remark,
the matches will not be played in nights because the stadiums do not contain
the necessary lighting systems and therefore the spectators are forced to
absorb the summer heat in the stands and they must take the necessary measures
to avoid sunburn. In the US Open, however, matches can be discussed after
sunset under the spotlight.
Unfortunately, the official website as of this day, has not
published the dates and circuit of meetings.
TV Broadcast
Good news, as in previous years, the matches will be live via
France Télévisions and Eurosport. Note that both channels have a streaming
service (free on France TV, paying on Eurosport) for people who want to follow
the matches from their computers, smartphones and tablets.
For USA and Canada, there is NBC sports, Tennis channel, RDS,
TSN.
